Goodwill for a business begins within home turf of the organization, where it is nurtured and developed, by each and every one of its members. All have a relevant role to play, which when pooled together, helps in the organizational progress. A crucial aspect which, must forever be kept in mind, is that what we give into the organization, affects its overall output. At the same time, what we give, is what we get back in kind. Therefore when we deceive the very people we work for, we end up deceiving our own selves. To have come to a point, where trust needs rebuilding, is perhaps an indication that, the guilty party, has in fact lost sight of the significance of trust in itself. Thus in order to know how to rebuild trust at work, the concept of trust must be clearly understood. Significance of Trust at Workplace Trust is having faith in the integrity of an individual. In the workplace, trust suggests that the organization, expects each and every member to be honest, hardworking and diligent. That the members not indulge in activities which will prove detrimental to the business, its reputation and output of the organization. All members are supposed to work as a team, without trying to cause harm or compete negatively with one another. Steps to Rebuild Trust at Work Accept Responsibility Take responsibility for having intentionally let your co-workers and employers down. Accept the fact that you have been behaving in a passive aggressive manner and complaining more, rather than finishing your share of the work. Accept the fact that because of your negligence, your colleagues could not finish their projects on time. Do not wait for someone to point this out to you, and never wait until the authorities demand for an explanation. Waiting until being questioned, would only make you look worse. It will assure others that you are not serious about your work and are wasting your time as well as the time and efforts of the other members in the workplace. Seek an Apology Write a formal letter, apologizing for your misconduct. Assure them that such behavior will never be repeated in the future. If possible request for a personal meeting with the manger, where you may explain as to why you let the organization down and how sorry you are about your unprofessional behavior. Acknowledge the fact that you have been complacent about following the proper ethics of workplace. It may seem too drastic a step at first, but you will need to come out clean, in order to make others regain some bit of their lost faith in you. Ask for Advice If you have been shirking work because of inefficiency on your part, then this is the opportune time for you to address your drawbacks. Ask for help in areas where you realize you could do with some guidance, so as to improve your credibility and results. Do not allow your pride to make you refrain from asking for suggestions and advice from employers and employees alike. Remember that your main objective is to prove to the organization that you are trying to bring something beneficial into the business. Work as a Team Learn to cooperate with your co-workers and work as one unit. Your responsibility is to take an active part in the procedures of team meetings, and to take on responsibilities. Most importantly your job requires that you deliver on to the table, the targets you have promised. You greatest objective is to complete your job efficiently and submit them within the stipulated time. Never leave your work for others to complete, as you will be piling onto their own targets and making them overwork. Always be willing Complete Expected Goals Not being able to accomplish your targets, in spite of trying, will be initially, accepted and forgiven by the organization, but only to a certain extent. However not finishing your work, simply because you do not wish to or care to complete your work, is an intentional dereliction of duty. You will need to show results in facts and figures, in order to redeem your reputation in the organization as well as in the eyes of your colleagues. And most importantly, you will need to redeem yourself, in front of your own self! Its only when you begin to show results, will you be accepted back as a responsible member of the organization. Being honest is the best way on how to rebuild trust at work and in every other sphere of life. Since trust has already been compromised, there may be a probability that your organization, might not accept your apology, in which case you must accept the consequences gracefully.
